Austin Holcombe heads to Midwest for four days of racing
After nearly three months out of the driver's seat due to injury, Austin Holcombe made his return to racing with the DIRTcar Modifieds at Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Ill.) on Wednesday afternoon.
With 35 Modified in the pit area, Holcombe missed the set up in qualifying, but made up a couple spots in his heat race to transfer to the main event. For the $3,000-to-win feature, Austin landed a 13th-place effort.
With another DIRTcar Modified show at Lincoln Speedway (Lincoln, Ill.) on Thursday afternoon, Austin landed a third-place finish in his heat which lined him up to start ninth in the 20-lap main event. For the $2,000-to-win feature, Holcombe gained two spots to finish seventh.
Making the haul overnight to Bloomington Speedway (Bloomington, Ind.) on Friday afternoon for the $9,999-to-win Roddy Strong Memorial, Austin picked up a heat race victory following the third-quickest lap in his qualifying group. For the 30-lap main event, Holcombe battled hard the leaders but ultimately settled for a podium finish.
At Paragon Speedway (Paragon, Ind.) on Saturday, Holcombe made the starting field for the $3,000-to-win main event and recorded a seventh-place outing.
